My circumstances

(Needless to say,) I'm not rich. My parents are also never rich.

Yesterday, I saw an article about Japan economics on the internet. According to that, "It has been said that a hundred million Japanese people are in the middle classes. But this theory does not apply anymore. It's becoming bipolar."

An Australian told what he was surprised when he came to Japan was most Japanese people lived well. We all Japanese people don't realize we're rich. But for Australian we seem to be comfortably situated. He told me 10% students go to college by their parents support, and other students have a part time job for getting school fees. Besides that, it's not rare the students take more than four years to proceed a degree because they have to earn the school fees by themselves. He said he couldn't believe that college students have a new car. And he explained Japan economic is still much better that Australia's that even now Japan is not in good economic and on the other side Australia is.

Fortunately I went to college by my parents support. And I could buy a new car even though I have loan still now.

What can I say? How can I express my feelings? All I can say now is that I was embarrased I hadn't realized how I was comfortably situated and I didn't show any appreciates to my parents.

There isn't 自己嫌悪 in an English dictionary.

Hmm. It's true that even though Japan has been in a horrible recession for almost 20 years, a lot of people still live well - but I think this depends on the definition of "well". For example, if you define "well" as having a keitai, a car, and a big plasma flatscreen TV, then yes. If you define "well" as having an insulated house, a workday that ends on time so you can go home and relax, and high interest on your savings - then no.

I think you don't need to dislike yourself.:) I think this is good that now you realized how lucky you are. :) It's never too late to show how you thank your parents. I think i know what you feel. I wish I were rich too sometimes but being rich isn't always good either. Money can change people. I believe that knowing to earn money isn't that easy is important.
